A guide to Melbourne's most delicious vegan offerings
Las Vegan Bakery website
22 Smith St, Colllingwood Melbourne (map)
My favourite things here are the bakery goodies- there are usually a few different calzones to choose from, their own muffins and brownies and a wide range of Mister Nice Guy cupcakes. Their chocolate 'brownie cookies' are amazing and raise money for Edgars Mission, you can see the resuced farm animal portraits up on the wall. Las Vegans is also a community hub- they support (and organise) many animal rights events, there is always a friendly lounge room vibe. I've had some mixed results with the coffee and the mains- my lentil burger had way too much white rice in it for my taste, although they nailed the chips!
The breakfasts, baked goods and salads usually great though.
Open for lunch every day except Monday, for dinner Thursday-Saturday and dinner on the weekends.
Fatto a Mano

A friendly and welcoming organic bakery with lots of vegan treats (that are all clearly marked). They usually have about 4 or 5 different vegan pizzas, often on a spelt base, as well as a vegan pie and calzone, and often a yummy vegan cranberry cookie. Plenty of gluten free options too.
Open for breakfast and lunch Tuesday to Saturday.
Mister Nice Guy Cupcakes website

Mister Nice Guy have made Melbourne vegan living all the sweeter- they make amazing vegan cupcakes with organic fairtrade ingredients (lots of gluten and soy-free options too). You can buy them at lots of locations around Melbourne or their cute little shop at Prahran Market. They rotate innovative and decadent flavours like Zombie brains, white Russian, Vanilla Lavender and Pink lemonade, and their cupcakes alway s look beautiful- like the rose and pistachio number pictured.
These guys are so passionate, they've even started a Mister Nice Guy video channel to inspire everyone to create sweet vegan treats at home http://vimeo.com/user9666418
