The food at Tamil Feasts is absolutely delicious! It's always gluten free, with options for vegans and omnis on Wednesdays and Fridays and all veggie on Thursday nights, it's really good value - $30 for a three course meal. We went for a birthday dinner, with a couple of ominvores and lots of vegans and it was great, lovely service, fabulous food, and the warm feeling that comes from supporting a very worthwhile cause.
The food is made by asylum seekers Sri, Nirma, Nigethan and Niro, who were in detention for 6 1/2 years and struggled to find work upon their release. They have partnered with Ceres to share their culture, delicious food, and insights into the refugee experience. The atmosphere at the feast is warm and celebratory, servings are generous and for a $5 donation they will fill you up a container of leftovers for lunch the next day!
I've put this in the 'special occasions' section since it is a banquet and you need to book in advance for (which you can do from their website), but feel free to dress casual. When we were there, there were a couple of birthday tables, groups of friends, and couples having quiet night out.
